2008 St. Louis Rams Draft Picks
Chris Long,
Donnie Avery, John Greco, Justin King, Keenan Burton,
Roy Schuening, & David Vobora
|
 |
Round 1
- Overall Pick # 2 -
Chris Long - DE
Chris
Long was a solid first year player. Chris stepped right
in and started at defensive end for the St. Louis Rams.
Chris was in on 40 tackles including 4 sacks and a
forced fumble. Chris had a slightly better season than
Derrick Harvey and Lawrence Jackson, the other two
defensive ends drafted in the first round. I look for
big improvement from Chris under Steve Spagnuolo.
Remember it took Mario Williams a full year to start
making an impact.

Round 2 - Overall Pick # 33 -Donnie Avery - WR
Donnie
Avery was a surprise as the first WR taken in the 2008
NFL Draft. The Rams and Billy Devaney were very high on
Avery. With Isaac Bruce moving on to the San Francisco
49ers, Avery had some big shoes to fill. After some
injury issues in camp, Avery was ready to play in week
2. Avery went on to have a nice opening season with 53
receptions for 674 yards and 3 TDs. Eddie Royal had the
best rookie WR campaign but Avery looks to be a nice
player. I expect much bigger numbers from Avery in 09' |

Round 3 - Overall Pick #
65 - John Greco - G
John Greco
was able to get into nine games in 2008, most of them
down the stretch. He looked good in his only start in
week 17 against the Atlanta Falcons. I really have not
seen enough of Greco to have an opinion one way or the
other. With Orlando Pace gone Greco should see more
action in 2009, unless we draft a OT with the second
overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft. Looking back Steve
Slaton would have been a nice pick at this spot.

Round 4 -
Overall Pick # 101 - Justin King
- CB
Justin
King is blazing fast but we never were able to see it in
person. King hurt himself in the first preseason game
against the Tennessee Titans. King tore a ligament and
was placed on IR and was out for the season. The Rams
really could have used another corner back. Hopefully
King will be back at full speed heading into the
upcoming training camp.

Round 4 -
Overall Pick # 128- Keenan Burton - WR
Keenan
Burton who was a combine freak did not see a lot of
playing time in 2008. However with Torry Holt getting
cut Burton should play a much larger part in teh Rams
offense in 2009. Burton started being used more as the
first receiver off the bench in the second half of the
season. Burton managed just 13 catches for 172 yards,
and one TD for the year. |

Round 5 - Overall Pick # 157
- Roy Schuening - G
Roy Schuening
made it into the line up week 17 against the Atlanta
Falcons. Other than that we need not see much from Roy.
We heard what a great versitile player he was at Oregon
State. Even with all of the offensive line issues the
Rams had, Scott Linehan would not put Roy in. I believe
Incognito should have been benched during the season and
Schuening should have been given a look. We will see if
he has any impact in 2009. |

 |
Round 7 - Overall Pick #
228- Chris Chamberlain - LB
Chris
Chamberlain was able to make two tackles in 2008, but
considering he was drafted 228th overall it is pretty
impressive he made the team. Chris played quite a lot on
special teams as well. Both Chamberlain and Vobora look
to be good tacklers.

 |
Round 7 -
Overall Pick # 252 - David Vobora - OLB
David Vobora
was most known for being Mr. Irrelevant in the 2008 NFL
Draft. David was drafted 252nd overall. David had seven
tackles for the season. David was able to play
linebacker in a few games due to injuries. In addition
David also got some work in with the special teams unit.
