St. Louis Rams Select Jerome Murphy, CB USF

The Rams selected CB Jerome Murphy a CB from USF with the 65th overall pick in the 3rd round of the 2010 NFL draft. Murphy is a 6'195 lb press corner out of the Big East conference.

From NFL.com - Murphy was a productive two-year starter for the Bulls. He is a tall, lean secondary defender with deceptive strength. He is a tough hardnosed perimeter defender who lacks great quickness and speed to play out on an island in man coverage's. Murphy is a physical corner who can jam and reroute receivers off the line of scrimmage and he's a solid run support defender. He is an instinctive player who leverages the ball well in coverage as well as maintaining proper body positioning defending the run. He can be inconsistent in block protection and wrapping up in the open field, but he is very aggressive for the cornerback position. Murphy is a good football player who has some limitations but should contribute as a rookie in a Cover 2 defensive scheme.

St. Louis Rams Select Rodger Saffold, OT Indiana

The St. Louis Rams have selected Rodger Saffold a 6'4" 315lb Offensive Tackle from Indiana with the 33rd pick overall in the 2010 NFL Draft.

From NFL.com - Saffold is a good collegiate lineman who started at left tackle for three consecutive years at Indiana. He lacks the massive stature that teams are looking for in a left tackle and may be lacking a step in quickness to play on the left side but should be able to find a home on the right side or even inside at guard. He has above-average initial quickness and does a good job of getting a fit with his hands to control and steer opponents on by the hole or pocket. He understands blocking angles and does a good job of recognizing stunts and twists up front and keeps his head on a swivel when in pass pro. While he doesn't really jump off the screen at you, the end result is that he consistently gets the job done and often makes it look pretty easy.

What Will The Rams Do At #33

With Jimmy Clausen and Colt McCoy still on the board the Rams should be getting plenty of calls throughout the night to trade. The question is, is it worth moving down. Is the player the Rams want already there ready for the picking?

The Rams can go several ways on Friday. Do they get a weapon like Golden Tate to help Sam Bradford? Do they get Sergio Kindle OLB from Texas to play next to James Laurinaitis. Do you take a new pass rushing DE like Everson Griffen to replace Leonard Little and to bookend with Chris Long. I believe the fourth choice would be to take their highest rated OT on their board however I think #33 is too high to take any of the remaining tackles. It would be interesting to find out if the Rams were sitting on Jahvid Best RB California before the Detroit Lions moved up to select him number 30 overall. We will find out Friday night!

2010 NFL Draft What To Watch For

There are some great story lines and trade possibilities leading up to the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. In addition to following the St. Louis Rams I am very interested in how the entire first round will play out. I am very interested in the items below:

Will the St. Louis Rams trade with either the Washington Redskins or Cleveland Browns prior to the draft or even after they make their selection?

Will the Pittsburgh Steelers really attempt to trade two time Super Bowl Champion Ben Ben Roethlisberger?

Will the top playmaker in the draft C.J. Spiller go in the top 10? I believe he is a perfect fit for the Seattle Seahawks.

I believe the Kansas City Chiefs really want out of the #5 slot but will they be forced to just take the BPA?

We have heard the experts but do the teams actually value Bradford over Clausen, Suh over McCoy, and Okung over Williams?

Will the Oakland Raiders once again reach and make a horrible top 10 selection?
Will the New York Jets create an insane secondary by selecting Taylor Mays?

Seattle and San Francisco have 4 picks within the top 17 selections in the draft. Both teams have an outstanding chance to greatly improve their roster. How much further ahead of the Rams will they pull with these selections?

Denver seems like a logical fit for Dez Bryant but will a team trade up and beat them to the punch?

Which top 10 talent will free fall, Berry, Spiller, Haden, Clausen?

Will Tim Tebow find himself selected in the first round?

What are you looking forward to watching, let us know.

Draft Day is here ENJOY!

NFL 2010 Regular Season Schedule Release

The NFL Network will reveal the 2010 NFL schedule live on a special NFL Total Access presented by GMC Sierra, set to coincide with the interactive schedule release on NFL.com. Opponents for each team already have been determined, now dates and times will be announced. The second and third rounds will be presented on Friday April 23 starting at 6 p.m. and Rounds 4-7 will be held Saturday April 24 starting at 10 a.m. ET. You can Watch the entire draft live on NFL Network.

The St. Louis Rams could really use a schedule that will help them get off to a better start in 2010. The Rams have the second easiest strength of schedule this year but as we know the order of the games can be crucial. The Rams had to play 3 of their first 4 games on the road to start the 2009 season and it was all down hill from there. In 2008 the Rams started against Philly and the Giants and quickly were 0-2 and allowed 79 points against. Maybe we can get lucky and start off with the Lions and Raiders and actually try to get out of the gate. For the past 3 seasons the Rams have lost at least their first four games in each season. The fan base will not take much more.

Why Sam Bradford Should Be The #1 Pick

Well I still think that Sam Bradford is the pick the St. Louis Rams need to make to start the 2010 NFL Draft. During my radio interview with BlogTalkRadio on Friday I gave some reasons as to why I believe Bradford is the pick for the Rams. Below is a recap of the reasons I believe that make Bradford the pick:

To win in this NFL you need a accurate quarterback and Sam Bradford was deadly accurate in college. It is time to get a quarterback that can get the ball to the wideouts. Look at the quarterbacks of the 12 teams that made the playoffs in 2009 and you will see a lot of stars on that list.

The Super Bowl featured Drew Brees against Peyton Manning. Do you know the names of the defensive tackles in that game? Exactly we need a stud quarterback and that is Sam Bradford.

The St. Louis Rams were 29th in attendance last year and a big name quarterback could put some butts in the seats and spark some interest in a franchise which has been losing its fan base.

The Rams averaged 10.9 points per game in 2009. The Rams are in dire need of playmakers and some offensive weapons.

The Rams missed out on taking Cutler, Flacco, Ryan, Sanchez and Bradford how long can they wait to draft a top tier QB?

Steven Jackson will be 27 when the season starts it is time to get him some help and take some pressure off of him.

The Rams already have defensive tackles Adam Carriker, Clifton Ryan, Darell Scott and Fred Robbins on the roster do we truly need to spend 60 million dollars on a DT?

Is a defensive tackle that costs 60+ million really a good value? Albert Haynesworth who signed a 100 million dollar contract with the Washington Redskins is on the trading block. Haynesworth has averaged only 42 tackles a year over the last year years. Is that impact? Glenn Dorsey who had the same accolades in 2008 as Suh is getting now has averaged 50 tackles and one sack per year for the Chiefs who still have an awful defense.

People say if Bradford is a bust he will set the franchise back a decade. Why? The Rams gave Chris Long was given 29 million guaranteed and Jason Smith was given 33 million and we have not received much in a way of return from them yet. How come they don't set the franchise back a year? At some point you have to try. You have to pull the string and make the selection, why not now.

I am very worried with the Rams ownership in flux that Chip and Lucinda will continue to just save money and that means trading down. The Rams could trade down with either Washington or Cleveland and take Jimmy Clausen if they believe he is as talented as Bradford. The guaranteed money at #4 or $7 would be much less than at #1 plus he would be the second qb drafted. Would the Rams really trade down just to save money, I think they would.

St. Louis Rams Training Camp Returns

The St. Louis Rams announced Friday that the Rams will once again hold their training camp at the Russell Training Center in Earth City, Mo. Steve Spagnuolo said" This year we feel it is in the best interest of our football team to conduct training camp at Russell Training Center.” Dates and times will be announced later. This is great news for local Rams fans who like to watch the Rams practice. The Russell Training Center allows fans to get up close to the players.

St. Louis Rams Pre-Draft Visits

The 22 players listed below will be in for pre-draft visits with the St. Louis Rams, some interesting choices in my opinion. If you are interested in Sam Bradford you need to be interested in Jermaine Gresham so I am curious about his absense from this list. I would like to see Ben Tate or some other running backs that will be available after the first round. Jerry Hughes or Devin McCourty could be nice pickup at #33 but I wish the Rams would also bring in Kareem Jackson CB from Alabama. I also like Dennis Pitta the mature 25 year old TE on Brigham Young.

Offense

Sam Bradford; QB; Oklahoma
Dez Bryant; WR; Oklahoma State
Selvish Capers; OT; West Virginia
Jimmy Clausen; QB; Notre Dame
Ed Dickson; TE; Oregon
Clayton Harbor; TE; Missouri State
Ryan Mathews; RB; Fresno State
Colt McCoy; QB; Texas
Damian Williams; WR/PR; Southern California

St. Louis Rams To Sign Na'il Diggs

Jim Thomas reports the St. Louis Rams will sign Na'il Diggs on Wednesday. The Rams visited with Na'il Diggs back on March 16th and will apparently sign him. Diggs can play weakside LB and special teams. Diggs will add depth to the roster that is very lean at the linebacker position. Last year Diggs had 38 tackles while playing in 14 games for the Carolina Panthers. Diggs is another veteran having played 10 years in the NFL, spending six with the Green Bay Packers and the last four on the Panthers. Diggs will turn 32 prior to the 2010 NFL season. Diggs has 601 career tackles, 11 sacks and 5 interceptions. The Rams continue to make small moves to try and improve depth but as of yet no big splash has been made into the free agent pool.

St. Louis Rams 2010 Preseason Schedule

The NFL released the 2010 preseason schedule today. Dates and times of the games have yet to be determined. Rams fans will get to see the Minnesota Vikings and Baltimore Ravens at the Edward Jones Dome. This will be the first time in a long time that the Rams will not play the Kansas City Chiefs in the preseason and I for one am very happy about that. The Rams will not take part in any of the 11 nationally televised games which is no surprise since they went 1-15 in 2009. The 2010 NFL preseason will get under way when the Cincinnati Bengals take on the Dallas Cowboys on August 8th in the Hall of Fame Game.

Week 1 - Minnesota at St. Louis
Week 2 - St. Louis at Cleveland
Week 3 - St. Louis at New England
Week 4 - Baltimore at St. Louis

Do St. Louis Rams Have A Poker Face?

The question is do the St. Louis Rams have a poker face? Sure the Rams signed free agent QB A.J. Feeley known for his solid backup play and teaching ability. Does this point to the clear fact that the Rams are going to draft Sam Bradford and play Feeley while Bradford prepares to take the reins? The Rams also signed 10 year veteran DT Fred Robbins. Will the Rams actually play Robbins at DT in a rotation with Clifton Ryan, Darell Scott and Adam Carriker or is he there to teach Ndamukong Suh a thing or two about the NFL? The big question is have the Rams improved their draft status with these moves or do other teams see through the Rams poker face? I still believe they are going to draft Sam Bradford first overall.

St. Louis Rams Sign CB Kevin Dockery

The St. Louis Rams signed cornerback Kevin Dockery on Monday. Dockery made 25 tackles in 2009 while playing in 11 games for the Giants. The Rams who claim to want bigger, stronger, faster players have signed another undersized player in Dockery who is 5'8" and 190 pounds. Dockery has 149 tackles and 3 interceptions in his NFL career. Dockery was not tendered an offer by the Giants where he was viewed at best their 4th cornerback on the depth chart. I guess the Rams can at least say they are spending money, but I am not sure what they are getting for it.

St. Louis Rams Sign TE Darcy Johnson

The St. Louis Rams signed 6'5" Tight end Darcy Johnson on Monday. Steve Spagnuolo has signed yet another ex-Giant. Three of the five free agents the Rams have signed are ex-Giants and don't forget James Hall from last year. In addition Hank Fraley played for the Eagles while Spagnuolo was on the coaching staff there. Johnson had 5 catches for 32 yards last year for the Giants while playing in 13 games. During his three year career Johnson has only 9 catches for 78 yards. Good thing we landed Johnson before he was caught by another team dreaming about catching a backup of a backup for their TE position.

St. Louis Rams Sign Center Hank Fraley

The St. Louis Rams continued with their "so what" free agent signings, by adding 32 year old center Hank Fraley to their roster. Fraley was the back up center in 2009 for the Cleveland Browns, starting only four games. Fraley has been very durable for an interior lineman starting 123 games of the 135 that he has played in over his 10 year career. Steve Spagnuolo again has ties to this free agent pickup. Coach Spagnuolo was with the Philadelphia Eagles while Fraley was playing in Philadelphia. First we had the FOSL's with Scott Linehan, then ex-Saints players coming to town for Jim Haslett and now Spagnuolo continues to focus on Eagles and Giants retreads. Sure their may be an advantage to knowing these players or having a relationship with them but are they the top players to help the St. Louis Rams in 2010?

2010 St. Louis Rams Strength of Schedule

The St. Louis Rams 2010 opponent list has been released. The dates and times of the games have yet to be released. In addition in their first 3 home games they faced Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning. Those 3 quarterbacks threw a total of 96 TD passes and finished within the top 6 in QB rating. The St. Louis Rams 2010 strength of schedule (SOS) is .449 and 31st overall, or the second easiest schedule in the NFL. Below are list of 2010 St. Louis Rams opponents:

St. Louis Rams Sacked 28-6 In Finale

Well the St. Louis Rams did not disappoint today. In one of the most boring games ever watched (be thankful it was blacked out) The Rams were sacked 8 times, and blown out 28-6. The Rams not only lost their 15th game of the year and 42nd in 3 years, they also set the record for worst record in Rams franchise history going 1-15.

As bad as the St. Louis Rams have been on offense they managed to be worse today. Even with Steve Jackson playing the Rams could not do anything. On their first five drives of the game the Rams totaled 3 yards! Three! How bad was this game? The Rams who only had 72 yards of offense in the first half went into halftime with a 3-0 lead over the San Francisco 49ers. Never fear the Rams second half offense showed up as it always does. The Rams longest drive of the second half was 8 yards! Did I mention the Rams could do nothing on offense? Poor Donnie Jones was forced to punt 11 times. The Rams totaled 109 yards for the game!

Former Missouri stand out Justin Smith burned the Rams for 3.5 sacks, he had only 2.5 for the entire season. I don't care how many players are hurt on this team, they absolutely can not block. From the center out to the TE's and back to the running backs none of them can block. Unless Suh can play O-line as well as D-line this team is still going to have serious issues in 2010.

The 49ers who looked disinterested in the first half managed 28 second half points once they started testing the Rams secondary. It amazes me that teams do not just pass play after play against the Rams corners. Alex Smith who had 23 yards passing at half time finished with 222 yards, a TD, and a QB rating of 97.6.

The Rams season is finally over. Are we any better than in 2008? We cleared out some veteran players that is about the only difference I see at this point. We still have holes at every position except RB, where we still need a quality back, not a quality back up, a quality back. It is still too early for Devaney, Spags, and the other coaches but I am not impressed so far. For a closing thought, please do not tell me the Rams played hard today, that should be a given, the Chiefs scored 44 points on the road in a game they could have written off. That is playing hard, please see the difference.

St. Louis Rams Draftathon Is Underway

Rams fans phone lines are now open and operators are standing by to talk trade with the Rams after their 16-13 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday. The Rams loss, their 13th of the season and 40th in their last 46 games, combined with a victory by Tampa Bay over the Seattle Seahawks puts the Rams in the #1 draft position of the 2010 NFL Draft. With only two games remaining in the 2009 season the St. Louis Rams are in position to draft any college football player eligible for the draft. With tons of teams wanting Ndamukong Suh the Rams phone should start ringing soon with some deals. Will there be deals to help the St. Louis Rams turn around their franchise sooner than later?

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Rams Fall 16-13 To Texans

On the bright side the St. Louis Rams truly did play hard during their 16-13 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday. The Rams were actually able to hold a 10-6 lead for 11 minutes and 32 seconds. A close loss like this one in a way is worse than a blowout because it shows that we just need a couple more playmakers and we could find ways to win games like these.

Keith Null was decent going 18 of 27 for 173 yards and a TD. Steven Jackson is simply the Rams best player and on the surface the player that cares the most about winning. Steven Jackson who had a noticeable limp in pregame warm-up and during the game in addition to his back pain and sickness this week muscled through with a gritty effort. Jackson accounted for 123 of the Rams 237 total yards. He also had time to get in a fight with SS Bernard Pollard - Watch the fight video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KqQuuFmx9Q. The Rams special teams were outstanding once again. Danny Amendola not only set up a TD with a 55 yard kickoff return he also caught a TD pass from Keith Null. Josh Brown was 2 for 2 on field goals including a 52 yarder. Donnie Jones who seems to be great week in a week out allowed no return yards and also downed two punts inside the 20. The Rams defense held the Houston Texans to 2.2 yards per carry. The defense was also good on 3rd down holding the Texans to 5 for 14 on the day. This allowed the defense to get off the field and along with their red zone defense stay in the game.

Speaking of playmakers the Texans have one of the best in the league in wideout Andre Johnson. Johnson will easily lead the NFL in receiving yards in 2009, and he will also top 1500 yards for the second year in a row. The Rams just had no answer for Johnson who had 196 yards on 9 receptions. I think the Rams were lucky since they did keep Johnson out of the end zone. Since Ron Bartell only plays left cornerback the Texans lined up Johnson in the backfield, would send him in motion and could pretty much dictate what coverage they wanted. This forced Quincy Butler and Justin King to cover Johnson quite a bit. Matt Schaub was able to pick apart the Rams defense going 28 of 30 for 367 yards a TD and a QB rating of 107. Teams have picked apart the Rams defense all year.

On the downside the Rams simply lack enough talented players and playmakers to win many games. The Rams offense is just awful. I know we are on our third QB but maybe that is part of the problem. I am ready to watch a Sam Bradford or Jimmy Clausen, even if we have to go through growing pains. With only six wins in their last 46 games the Rams are already going through pains so let's rebuild. The more I watch DeSean Jackson the more aggravated I get watching Donnie Avery play. Avery was once again a non-factor with four catches for 32 yards. The Rams are in desperate need of a backup running back with breakaway speed. Kenneth Darby and Samkon Gado combined for six yards on four carries, they simply are not the answer and do not allow Steven Jackson to get any rest. The defense also needs some playmakers. James Laurinaitis was a good start, he is a tackling machine but still needs to work on his coverage skills. The Rams only have 20 sacks on the season and when Leonard Little is not playing they pose no threat. On Sunday Matt Schaub was able to complete 70 percent of his passes and was not sacked. The Rams again allowed the opponent to gain over 400 yards as the Texans gained 419 yards on the day.

Houston Texans @ St. Louis Rams Matchup

Rams. The high flying Houston Texans (6-7) are coming off their best performance of the season a 34-7 victory against the Seattle Seahawks. Those are the same Seahawks that have beaten the St. Louis Rams 10 straight times and outscored the Rams 55-17 this season.

At 6-7 Houston has an outside chance of finishing 9-7 and making the playoffs. Last week in their victory both sides of the ball were explosive. The offense rolled up 365 yards by halftime behind Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson. Andre Johnson is arguably the best WR in the game. Through 13 games he has 81 receptions for 1237 yards and 8 TDs. Schaub could be the best second tier QB in the NFL. He is posting great numbers this year, 324 of 473 for 3814 yards a 68.5 completion percentage and a QB rating of 98.2. On the ground the trio of Steve Slaton, Ryan Moats and Chris Brown have been disappointing but have combined for 10 rushing TDs. Slaton is also dangerous on of the backfield with 44 receptions. Look for the Texans to match him up against the slow Rams outside linebackers.

On defense the Texans are middle of the pack but are coming off their best game of the season last week against Seattle. Houston had an amazing 15 tackles for loss in their game last week. Look for more of the same this week as Mario Williams and company will try to break through the Rams patchwork offensive line to attack Steven Jackson and Keith Null. As great as we think James Laurinaitis has played with his 104 tackles, don't overlook the Texans first round draft choice Brian Cushing who has 112 tackles and 2.5 sacks. I thought last year Cushing could be the best pro of all of the USC linebackers that came out. With the Rams starting O-line of Barron, Greco, Brown, Setterstrom and Goldberg look for the Texans front 7 to manhandle the Rams. As if you want to see another piece of the puzzle the Rams are missing check out Bernard Pollard today. Pollard is the Texans Strong Safety who they picked up after the Chiefs threw him away. Pollard is the kind of hammer the Rams need. If Null hangs out Gibson or Avery today look for Pollard to lay a missile shot on them.

What can you say about the St. Louis Rams offense? The Rams are last in scoring and lately have had trouble getting to 200 yards of offense in a game. With injuries to the O-line, sickness among many of their starters, and Keith Null possibly starting don't look for things to get any better today. If Steven Jackson can not go because of his back injury and sickness the Rams will turn to Gado and Darby. If that happens the Rams may easily be shutout today. Even with Jackson in the game the Rams have score 10 or less points in seven of their thirteen games. On defense today I have no idea what the Rams can do. The front four is going to have to create a lot of pressure on Schaub or this one will be over early. At Free Safety the Rams are starting David Roach and at Right Cornerback Quincy Butler. The Rams do not move Ron Bartell around so Andre Johnson will be able to freely move to create the matchups they are looking for. I am sure Johnson is not afraid of the Bartell matchup but you have to think they will test and burn Quincy Butler all day. The Rams are several pieces short of having a decent defense and once you add the injury issue to that they are even worse. Only the Detroit Lions have allowed more points than the Rams this year.

Overall it is a good day to go see a team that the Rams rarely play. In addition you can see some great players like Johnson, Schaub, Williams, and Cushing. I plan the spend the day in the Bud Light Party Zone wondering why the Rams have not put pieces like this together? Dez Bryant and Colt McCoy, anyone?

Winner By Knockout - Chris Johnson

The Chris Johnson, Steven Jackson showdown and Rams Titans showdown turned into more of an MMA first round knockout! It took Chris Johnson less than 12 minutes to produce 100+ total yards and two TDs to put the Titans up 14-0, and it was all over.

The Titans went on to roll up 446 yards in route to an embarrassing 47-7 thrashing of the St. Louis Rams. Chris Johnson managed to put up 186 total yards and three TDs. Steven Jackson who was obviously not at 100% again was kept in the game way too long. Jackson managed 47 yards on 19 carries and was stopped in the backfield most of the day.

Keith Null finally got into a Rams game today as the starting QB due to the injury to Kyle Boller. Keith managed to throw 5 INTs in a less than stellar performance. A late game garbage TD pass to Randy McMichael may be the highlight of his NFL career. Keith Null was 27 of 43 for 157 yards and a QB rating of 37.8. The Rams refuse to throw the ball downfield which the Rams 3.7 yards per attempt shows all to well.

If Steve Spagnuolo says anything to the media about the Rams effort, or how hard they try, or how they never quit, or how great they looked in practice I want every Rams fan to call the Rams office and complain. Hey Steve, we don't care win a game!!!

The Showdown - St. Louis Rams @ Tennessee Titans

With the St. Louis Rams 1-11 on the season there is no longer much excitement surrounding their games. However today's contest features an the top two running backs in the NFL going head-to-head.

Tennessee's Chris Johnson leads the NFL in rushing yards with 1509 yards on 244 attempts for an unbelievable 6.2 yards per carry average. In addition Johnson has 39 receptions for 322 yards. This puts Johnson clearly ahead of the pack with 1831 total yards from scrimmage and he has tacked on 10 TDs for good measure. I don't believe people really understand how good Johnson is. This is the NFL and for a running back to have pure breakaway speed is remarkable. Chris Johnson truly has the ability to score on any play. Johnson has a league leading seven 40+ yard rushes and nineteen of 20 yards or more.

Steven Jackson is the undisputed leader of the St. Louis Rams in 2009. As important as he is as a great running back he has been equally important as the new leader and face of the franchise. In numerous games this year Steven has said hop on guys it's time to pick it up. Unfortunately Jackson has been only able to lead the Rams to one victory. Jackson leads the NFC in rushing and is second in the NFL in rushing. With no passing threat it is amazing that Jackson has been able to put up 1232 rushing yards on a league leading 266 attempts. Jackson also leads the Rams in receptions with 44 for 267 yards. The biggest question for Rams fans is will the 400+ touches Jackson gets in 2009 effect his ability in 2010. The Rams need to find a backup speed back for 2010.

As for the game today these are two teams going in opposite directions. The Tennessee Titans come in winning five of their last six games, and still hold out hope for a playoff position. When Vince Young took over as QB for Kerry Collins the Titans started getting on a roll. The Titans have averaged 27 points per game with Young at the helm. Vince Young however has a knee injury which has kept him out of practice all week and made him a game time decision. With the playoffs on the line I look for Vince Young to find his way onto the battlefield today. Chris Johnson, Kenny Britt, and Nate Washington also are on the injury report for Tennessee today.

The St. Louis Rams are once again working on a losing streak which stands at four. The Rams have only one win on the season and only six in the last three years. This current team could be the worst in a long franchise history. Without Steven Jackson this team would be lucky to beat the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Rams also have major QB issues, this week Kyle Boller's thigh injury could cause Keith Null to get the start on the road. This would not be a good place for Null to get his first NFL opportunity but you take what you can get. Many fans have wanted to see what Keith Null can do before 2010 gets here, today they may get their wish. With a lot of questions on offense and a growing injury list expect more of a very basic boring offense from the Rams who are dead last in scoring at 11 points per game.

The Rams continue to show they do not know how to win, and the Titans have to win today. Look for Chris Johnson to run all over the Rams today.

Rams beat Lions 17-10 to end losing streak

Steven Jackson picked a great time for his first rushing touchdown of the season as he raced 25 yards into the end zone to put the Rams up 17-10 with 1 minute and 38 seconds left to play against the Detroit Lions. That turned out to be the difference as the Rams ended their 17 game losing streak, and head into the bye week at 1-7.

Steven Jackson was the difference today between these two bottom dwelling teams. The lack of talent and playmakers on these teams is quite noticeable. The Rams took advantage of their only playmaker as Jackson had 25 touches on the day and accounted for over 45% of the Rams total offensive yardage. Steven Jackson is now tied with Adrian Peterson for second with 784 rushing yards, 40 behind the Tennessee Titans Chris Johnson. The Rams benefited from a pass interference penalty on the Lions on their last drive and after that it was all Jackson, who rushed for the final 42 on the ground.

Their were plenty of negatives on the day for the Rams but for now I am going to just sit back and enjoy this one because it has been a long time since the Rams last won a regular season football game. With my glass half full goggles on, I will even point out that the Rams 17 point outburst on Sunday puts them only 1 point behind the Oakland Raiders and Cleveland Browns for the least amount of points scored in the NFL.

Keenan Burton led the Rams in catches (5) and yardage (54) on Sunday. Donnie Avery was again a no show with only 1 catch for 15 yards. On defense Ron Bartell led the team with 6 tackles and Chris Long was credited with his first sack of the season. The Rams now can enjoy the next week off as they prepare to take on the 7-0 New Orleans Saints.

Brad Grogan's Rams Fan Point Of View

This week we asked fellow Rams fan and college football player Brad Grogan his thoughts on the St. Louis Rams 23-20 OT loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. See if you agree with Brad's synopsis of the game and the Rams:

The Rams fell to 0-6 on Sunday with a discouraging 23-20 loss in OT. Here are some stats that tell the story of the game:

Offensively: Total plays = 53, 13 first downs (11 passing, 1 rushing, 1 pen), 4-12 on 3rd down, 262 Total yards (55 rushing 207 passing), 22-34 passing, 1 sack + 1 turnover, Time of Poss 24:48 vs. 42:12
Team Notables: 10 offensive drives. Only offensive touchdown came on 1st drive of game. 3 scoring drives = 193 yards, other 7 drives = 69 yards.
Individual Notables: SJack 16 for 50, 6 for 78., JBrown 2for2 FG, DJones 6 punts, 1 inside 20., Amendola = 4KR for 125 yds

Defensively: Total plays = 84, Gave up 33 first downs (15 passing, 14 rushing, 4 pen), 11-16 on 3rd down, 492 total yards (166 rushing, 326 passing), 30-43 passing, 3 sacks + 3 turnovers
Team Notables: 12 defensive drives (didn’t count downing the ball at end of 4th quarter.) 1 - 3plays and out drive. Gave up 2-100 yard receivers, 300 yard passer, 100 rusher
Individual Notables: Little 3 tack, 1 sack, 1 INT, 1TD, 3PD, Atogwe: 10tack, Lauranitis 5 tack, 1INT

Opinion: The stats tell it all. We couldn’t move the ball consistently on offensive and defensively we couldn’t stop them. Turnovers were the reason this game was close, without them the Rams are beat by at least 14 points. The Jaguars are 3-3 on the year and their defense is 25th in pts allowed, 24th in yards allowed, 12th in rush yards allowed and 30th in pass yards allowed (these rankings are after the game on Sunday). There is no way we shouldn’t have been able to move the ball against these guys. We didn’t because we don’t have any talent. Five people on the injury report after the game including leaders at WR and LB. Yes we held them to 23 points and lost in OT, but anyone who watched the game could tell the Jags dominated and deserved to win by much more. The question on many sportscasters’ minds: Are we closer to winning? Will 262 yards of offense get it done against the Colts? No! Lions? Maybe! The best possible outcome for next week is to keep everyone healthy and move the ball offensively. If I were drawing up the game plans, offensively they would include screen passes, draws, and reverses and oh yes a double pass! Why not! If we can’t beat them straight up why not try and steal a few points on a trick play. Fake a punt and/or field goal while were at it! People want to say our defense has improved. Well we have 3 of the top offenses in the NFL coming in over the next 4 weeks. This will be our litmus test. PS…if the Saints put up 49 on the Giants, what will they hang on us? WOW!

Positives: Danny Amendola finally got to play receiver and proved he can be more than a kick returner. Now let’s use him! I wasn’t upset with Bulger’s interception because it was a great defensive play (granted about 2 yards underthrown), but we finally threatened deep. We forced turnovers, but couldn’t convert them into TD’s. The Offensive line had decent pass blocking although Jags are tied for dead last in sacks.

Spags: “I told them we win together and lose together, they all understand. Now we need to learn from these mistakes and get better next week”. Not to bust his chops, but Linehan and Martz used to say the same thing!
Thanks Brad! What do you other fans have to say?

Ram Man Calls Out Chris Long

After 16 straight losses about all you can really do is laugh. That is why when I saw the following post by Ram Man one of the top Rams fans ever I had to share it with you. Karl Sides aka Ram Man said
"Can we get a DNA test on Chris Long? I think he may be the product of a love
night with the milk man and not HOFer Howie Long! He had a terrible day in
Jacksonville. maybe he can buy a sack with the paychecks he is cashing".
That is great stuff and hopefully everyone will at least laugh because that is about all we can do with this 2009 version of the St. Louis Rams.

Week 6 – Rams @ Jacksonville Matchup

Well Rams fans it has now been over a calendar year since the St. Louis Rams won a NFL regular season road game. a 19=17 victory over the Washington Redskins. The Jacksonville Jaguars are coming off a 41-0 pounding against the Seattle Seahawks. Even the Rams only lost 28-0 to the high powered Seahags. On the positive side the Jags lost 41-0 so they must not be very good right, or will they be that more pissed off and take it out on the St. Louis Rams? The Jags are 30th on defense in total yards and passing yards allowed. On the flip side the Rams are 31st in points allowed and 32nd in points scored, an awful combination.

The Jags took an interesting approach to the offseason one that the Rams could have taken. With their first two picks in the 2009 NFL Draft the Jaguars selected offensive tackles Eugene Monroe & Eben Britton. The Jaguars have each already in the starting lineup, while the Rams are still trying to get Jason Smith on the field at RT. The Rams were looking for more long term upside but meanwhile we are losing game after game, will the gamble ever pay off? The Jags then followed up drafting a DT, CB and 2 WRs seems like they had the same needs heading into the draft that the Rams had. Which has done a better job of filling their needs?

As for this game I think you simply have to follow the numbers. David Garrard has 5 TD passes in two home game, while the Rams have only scored 4 touchdowns the entire season and NONE on the ground even with Steven Jackson. The Jags are capable of putting some points on the board while the Rams rank 31st in points against. In addition the Jags will be getting WR Mike Sims-Walker back today. With Sims-Walker and Torry Holt on the outside and the Rams inexperience at CB the Rams could struggle again today. Maurice Jones-Drew and David Garrard are very hard to tackle so it will be very important for the Rams to get a great game from their front four today.

The Rams will have Marc Bulger back in the saddle at QB today. The Rams are only completing 56% of their passes which is bad news since rarely do they even throw the ball more than 10 yards down field. Bulger is coming back from another injury and I expect him to stay rusty. Steven Jackson has been putting up numbers and is on pace for 1400+ yards rushing but he has ZERO touchdowns, has fumbled a couple of times and continues to miss blitz pickups. I expect Maurice Jones-Drew to outplay Steven Jackson today.

The bottom line is there is still no reason to believe that the Rams believe they can win a game. Until they can believe it and do it, we will continue to pick against them. The numbers are just too heavy against them. In addition to losing 15 straight games, the Rams have also been outscored 146 to 34. Jacksonville is coming off an embarrassing loss and Jack Del Rio is not going to let that fly. I expect Jacksonville to be nasty on defense today and try to knock the Rams around and out. The most telling number may be the fact that in Las Vegas the Rams are a 10 point underdog to a team that just lost 41-0. The Jags can also still salvage their season with 3 straight games against the winless Rams, Titans, and Chiefs. Could the Jags be 5-4 through 9 weeks? I will exit with a quote from Brian Billick "Rams need more talent
Jacksonville has shown signs of being a very good team. I'm not sure St. Louis has the talent yet to beat anybody".

Minnesota Vikings Bury St. Louis Rams 38-10

Well it only took the Minnesota Vikings seven minutes to bury the St. Louis Rams Sunday at the Edward Jones Dome. I was not expecting much with the Rams facing the undefeated Vikings and that is about what I received, although some others will tell you how close it could have been. Here we are going to go with the truth. The defense which we keep hearing is playing well and getting better opened the game by letting the Vikings walk down the field 80 yards to take a 7-0 lead early. This is the defense we continue to get when we need a stop. The Rams actually opened on offense with a nice play action pass to the missing in action Randy McMichael who made his 11th catch of the season. Four plays later the Rams were on the Vikings 36, Kyle Boller dropped back to pass, was sacked and fumbled. Jared Allen picked up the fumble and ran 52 yards for a TD, and a 14-0 lead for the Vikings. Game Over.

You will hear the Rams put up 400 yards of offense, we held Adrian Peterson to 69 yards, we led in time of possession, if only we did not make any mistakes. Well I am tired of the too many mistakes. Bad teams make mistakes and this team is awful. Bottom line is the Rams lost 38-10. Next week the game starts 0-0 and the Jacksonville Jaguars who lost 41-0 today could care less how well you think you could have played. How much better are we playing? We lost 38-10 at home, we have lost 7 straight at home, and 15 straight overall, are we really playing better?

Early in the 3rd quarter with the Rams trailing 17-3, they pinned the Vikings deep on their own 10 yard line. If we can stop them we would have great field position and another shot to get back in a game. Did the defense step up? No, the Vikings drove 90 yards in only 7 plays to go up 24-3. I don't want to hear they played hard, they played until the end, the effort is there, who cares. Everyone on the field is a millionaire they should all be trying, giving 100%, fighting to the end, etc. Why is the other team scoring more and allowing less? We need to find the answer to that question not worry about telling us how a TD that makes the game 31-10 shows they are not quitting. Let's hope they are not quitting. Shouldn't we expect more?

Marc Bulger To Sit On Sunday

Marc Bulger has done some light throwing this week in practice for the St. Louis Rams, but Steve Spagnuolo has said Kyle Boller will very likely start the game against the Minnesota Vikings. This is good news for Marc who has a bruised rotator cuff on his throwing shoulder, because the Vikings have Jared Allen the current NFC leader in sacks. Will Alex Barron who was benched last week be able to bounce back and block Allen? I am not betting on it. Keith Null better loosen up prior to this game because he may see some action.

St. Louis Rams Captains For Week 5

The St. Louis Rams have announced their three Team Captains for this weeks game against the Minnesota Vikings. Offense - Richie Incognito, Defense - Clifton Ryan, Special Teams - Kenneth Darby.
I see now why we lack leadership on Sunday. Incognito takes stupid penalties, and gets benched for a play earlier in the year. Alex Barron gets a 5 yard penalty and gets benched for half of a game. Now Incognito is the Offensive Captain are you kidding me. How in the world is he the leader or captain of the offense? I know the captains don't mean much but if you are a player on this team you have to wonder what is going on.

The Whole Rams Organization Needs An Enema

I watched a lot of football this weekend, too much probably, but among the comments I heard one stood out and it was "The whole organization needs an enema". I don't remember who said it or who they were talking about, the Raiders I believe, but I am now going to use it after watching the St. Louis Rams today. This Rams organization does need an enema. Before I get into the game itself look at what we know already about the Rams. The Rams have lost 14 straight NFL regular season football games, are 0-4 in 2009, and have outscored 108-24. The Rams are dead last by a mile in scoring and have been shutout twice in the season, for the first time since 1942.

Tomorrow you will probably hear the same softball questions and answers between the St. Louis Rams and the media, so I will bring you the truth. The Rams themselves have posted and sent out a Twitter that says "A tightly contested first half got away from the Rams in the second as San Francisco surged to a 35-0 win on Sunday". Sure it was only 7-0 at halftime but did anyone think the Rams were going to score with a group of receivers that included Avery, Burton, Amendola and Martin? This team is total void of talent. Bernie Miklasz said "The Rams are the worst non-expansion year NFL team I've ever seen".

We thought the enema started when Jay Zygmunt was replaced by Billy Devaney. However as we look at the current roster and the roster from the start of the 2008 season, it is clear this team does not have more talent than it had previously. It is also too early to grade the 2008 and 2009 drafts but we certainly will not be seeing many of these guys on Sunday for years to come. Steve Spagnuolo gets a pass for now, as we all know you can't polish a turd.

I am really too mad to even discuss the game or the awful announcing from the Emmy award couple of Ron Pitts and John Lynch. For those of you die hard Rams fans that could stomach the entire game you already know the Rams were shutout 35-0. The Rams have now started three straight season with an 0-4 record. As I predicted today's game would be as painful as watching the previous Redskins game or an enema, see how I did that. The Rams managed just 10 first downs, half in the 4th quarter, and only 177 total yards. The 49ers easily bottled up Steven Jackson and the running game, harassed Kyle Boller and the woeful passing game, and basically embarrassed the Rams.

The details of the game can be summed up on two plays: The Rams received the opening kickoff, Danny Amendola broke into the open and returned the kick to the 49ers 4 yard line. Of course Anthony Smith was called for holding. Anthony Smith is a backup safety the Rams picked up off waivers back on September 6th. The ball was placed on the Rams 22 yard line, were they promptly went 3-and-out and punted the ball to the 49ers. The second play happened with 5:40 left in the first half with the score tied 0-0. A short punt from Lee bounded down the field, while throwing a block Quincy Butler kicked the ball into the Rams End Zone. Butler quickly got to the ball but tried to pick it up and run with it. This turned out to be a bad decision as he dropped the ball on the ground and Scott McKillop recovered for a 49ers TD. We have seen the rest before. Game Over.

Roll 'em Up Rams Fans!

Well I hate to be Donnie Downer but the 2009 St. Louis Rams season is over. That's right I am calling it. Sure not many fans had a vision of playoffs this year but there are still those of you out there thinking we are turning the corner and can win 5, 6, or even 7 games. Well I am here to crush those dreams, another season has ended for our beloved Rams. Facts are that since the playoffs were expanded to 12 teams in 1990 only 3 out of 204 teams that started the season 0-3 made the playoffs. Don't even start thinking we will be the 4th.

The Rams have lost 13 straight games, including 6 straight at home. In addition since the 2006 NFL Season the Rams are 5-30! That is an outstanding winning percentage of 14.2. Although I was and am behind the hiring of Steve Spagnuolo this franchise has been run into the ground and I do not see us turning the corner soon. The drafting and free agent signings this decade have been worse than awful. All of our talent and playmakers have moved on or retired and we have not backfilled as needed.

The most depressing part of our current situation is that we have salary cap issues. Based on our talent level how can that be? Well it is easy, more mistakes by the front office over the years. We are apparently so strapped for money we cut Chris Draft over $380,000. The 2009 NFL salary cap is set at $127 million, and we were forced to worry about $380,000. Let's recap where some of the money is going. We have 60+ million dollar contracts with Marc Bulger, Chris Long and Jason Smith. Chris Long is not even starting at the moment and is unable to provide any push on the front line. Jason Smith is the starting right tackle when healthy but he was drafted second overall in the draft a spot reserved for outstanding left tackle talent. I don't even want to discuss the contract that was given to Marc Bulger. We can then drop to the second tier decisions. The Rams gave out 30+ million dollar free agent contracts to Drew Bennett, Jacob Bell, and Jason Brown. Brown looks like a nice NFL center but should he be the highest paid in the NFL? In addition to these expenses we are starring at another top 5 draft pick in the 2010 NFL Draft which will cost the Rams another $60+ million. Still with all this money going out the lack of talent, experience, and depth on this team is staggering. We enter Week 4 of the 2009 NFL season with the worst wide receiving group I have ever seen. At corner only Ron Bartell really has any NFL experience and no other cornerback on the roster has shown me anything. So don't make fun of the Raiders, Browns, and Lions of the world because we are going down the long winding road along with them.

In the words of Chevy Chase Roll 'em Up!

David Vobora Suspended By NFL

The NFL suspended St. Louis Rams linebacker David Vobora for four games for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances. David Vobora is 5th on the team with 15 total tackles and moved into the starting lineup with the release of Chris Draft and the injury to Larry Grant. The Rams are now very thin at linebacker with only the following 5 on the roster; Will Witherspoon, James Laurinaits, Larry Grant, Chris Chamberlain and the newly signed Paris Lenon. Vobora has said that he plans to sue the company that makes the supplement he tested positive for. Bottom line is the Rams are down another player. Mr. Irrelevant will be irrelevant for the next four weeks.

I Got Caught Drinking The Kool-Aid

Ok you caught me and I have to apologize to Rams fans, if there are any left at this point. Last night I got pretty excited and pumped up about opening day against the Green Bay Packers. Maybe, just maybe I had a little too much Kool-Aid Saturday night. I originally thought about predicting a score of 31-10 for the Packers but you know what they say about how women look after 6 beers. I had a little Kool-Aid, thought about the game, hell the Bengals just ran all over the Packers. This is the home opener, these are the Rams trying to win the fans back. We have Steven Jackson, if Cedric Benson can run on the Packers surely Jackson could have a good game. The Packers had allowed 10 sacks, and would be missing starting left tackle Chad Clifton, Steve Spagnuolo would have some blitz packages to eat up that Packers O-line right?

So reality set in and as Denny Green said we are who we thought we were. The same old Rams that have now lost 13 straight regular season NFL games showed up again. The Rams D started off tough and held off the Packers early after Bulger and Jackson turnovers. The Packers who only managed 26 yards in the first quarter were still up 9-0. That just seems to be what happens to bad teams. The Rams get a nice opening kickoff return from Danny Amendola and moved the ball down to the Packers 31 to start the game, but Josh Brown's 48 yard FG was blocked. So instead of getting off to a 3-0 start we found ourselves down 9-0 even though the defense played nearly a flawless first quarter. I somehow forgot about the Rams lack of pass pressure, their lack of secondary depth, their lack of playmaking receivers, and their lack of talent. I am sorry fans I will not forget again. Like the Detroit Lions I will never pick the Rams to win a game again until they win one first.

Time For Rams To Punch Someone In The Mouth

It should be simple, after 12 straight losses, and losing 29 of their last 34 games the St. Louis Rams should be pissed off! I think it is time to show it. After being pushed and pushed some more and then pushed again it should be time to push back. That's right, it is time to punch someone in the mouth, and why not the cheeseheads. This could be the Rams best chance to win a game before their week 8 showdown against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. The Rams will be playing their home opener at the Edward Jones Dome in front of a packed house of 66,000 fans. The Green Bay Packers who have already let up 10 sacks will be without Chad Clifton. The Packers who were stunned last week by the Cincinnati Bengals will also be looking ahead to week four when they will travel to face their good buddy Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. There will be a ton of pressure on the Packers who could easily start 1-3 if they happen to fall to the St. Louis Rams.

As for the Rams it is time to show the fans something. Time to show the fans that keep hearing about the effort and the toughness and how the team is for sale and how the Edward Jones Dome is not good enough for our team, time to show us a win. The Packers just let up 151 yards rushing at home against the Cincinnati Bengals and we have Steve Jackson. We have the hammer, pound the rock. Stand up look them in the face and pound the rock. Hey Barron, Goldberg, Brown, Bell and Incognito, step up show us you want to play here and punch those Packers in the mouth. Run the ball and run the ball some more, and when you are done running the ball run it again. Steven Jackson is our star, and it is time for him to shine brightly and bring home a win so we can remember what it feels like.

It is time for all of the excuses to end. We spent over 30+ million on Bell and Brown. We spent first round draft picks on Barron and Smith. We talk about Marc Bulger in 3rd person saying he is Pro Bowl QB Marc Bulger, well this is 2009 and he has been awful for a long time. Marc is dead last in yards per attempt and 27th in QB rating. I don't want to hear about the receiving core. Donnie Avery is another high draft choice and Marc was 30th in QB rating in 2007 when he had Hall of Fame receivers Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce. I don't want to hear about the pinkie or lack of blocking or the lack of preseason play, Marc needs to step up and complete some NFL type passes or he can grab a clipboard.

It is time for Steve Spagnuolo to get after it and throw every blitz you have at the packers patchwork offensive line. You learned from the great Jim Johnson so I know you have those plays just sitting there. Bring the backers, bring the corners, bring a safety, bring them all. Leave no stone unturned. You have Butler and Atogwe back there to cover everything up, just get there before Aaron Rodgers can throw it. The New York Giants beat on Tom Brady and won a game nobody thought they could win. Do the same thing on Sunday. It is time to bloody up an opponent and start the change in our culture. It is our turn on Sunday!

I was not going to pick the Rams until they actually won a game but what the hell.

Billy Devaney Needs To Get To Work

As everyone has heard by now Billy Devaney was offended by comments made by Mark Schlereth on ESPN's Mike & Mike show today. During their true/false segment the question was are the St. Louis Rams the worst team in the NFL. Of course the answer was yes but Mark further said "they’re not competing" and he said that the Rams organization was in “shambles.” Billy Devaney later on ESPN said “I’ll be honest; I’ve got to take a deep breath, because that really pisses me off." Mark later apologized to Devaney and said he meant they are not competitive.

Well tomato tamato is what I say. Our GM should have better things to do then get in a semantics battle with a former NFL player, or the media for that matter. Hey Billy, why don't you make some phone calls and get us some NFL caliber players. The Rams are 5-29 in their last 34 games and have lost 12 straight games. We are awful. We are without playmakers. We are the worst team in the NFL right now. Let's look in the mirror and not worry about what the media has to say.

The Steven Jackson report on 101 ESPN

Every week Steven Jackson will do a call-in feature on “The Fast Lane” at 5pm CST on 101 ESPN. I was able to catch the show tonight. The hosts Bob Ramsey, Randy Karraker, and DeMarco Farr will ask Steven questions about the St. Louis Rams previous game. I will summarize below:

On the chippy play and conflicts with Aaron Curry, Steven Jackson said it was the 1st game, and it was just guys being competitive.

About the hit on Bulger, Jackson was quick to say this team will not lay down, they will fight to the end. The Rams want to focus on 2009, not the 5-27 over the previous two season.

What happens in the huddle when all of the false starts and personal fouls are happening? Jackson basically said nobody gets yelled at they just say come on team or come on Rams we know better we need to play smarter. He said they don't want to step on individual toes in those situations. I don't know why it is apparent someone needs to talk to Richie Incognito.

On the O-line performance, Jackson simply said the Seattle Seahawks were prepared.

About the hit on Mark Bulger, Jackson said they are not going to let another team try to intimidate them, and they will protect their QB. A few first downs would have protected him better if you ask me.

On his off day (Tuesday) he likes to spend time with his family and just do normal things.

They asked about his running style and if there was any daylight on the running plays. Jackson again just pointed out that Seattle played well.

When asked a dumb question about how the loss of Brian Urlacher from the Chicago Bears would affect their defense, Jackson said he is worried about Albert Haynesworth and the Washington Redskins.

Steve Spagnuolo gets Shit on 28-0

Steve Spagnuolo now knows what he was getting into or on him by taking the St. Louis Rams coaching job. The Rams were once again shit on by a divisional foe, this time 28-0 by the Seattle Seahawks who were 4-12 last year. It only took one play for the Rams to make a mistake on Sunday. On the opening kickoff Donnie Avery ran up the middle and immediately fumbled once contact was made and Seattle's Herring recovered. My first question of many today would be why was Avery back there? Avery returned one kick all of 2008 and that was due to an injury. Stanley and Gado were back there through the preseason so why Avery today, why your starting wideout on a team with no depth at wideout? Well that turned out to be the least of our problems today. The Rams shot themselves in the foot all day long. The Rams had a penalty on every offensive possession during the 1st quarter.

In the first 11 minutes and 49 seconds of the game the Rams defense was flying to the ball like in the preseason and managed to force two interceptions and a fumble recovery. The early interception by James Butler kept the Seahawks off the board early and gave the Rams hope. James Laurinaitis recovered a fumble on the Seattle 38 to set the Rams up in scoring position midway through the 1st quarter. After a bad penalty and a bad snap the Rams were only able to move the ball 3 total yards to the Seahawks 35 yard line. I thought the Rams would go for the long FG and try to take the lead but instead they pinned the Seahawks deep. The next drive O.J. Atogwe intercepted Hasselbeck and that was about it for the defense. They gave the offense 3 opportunities but were unable to cash in with any points.

After that the comedy or errors just got worse from that point on for the Rams. John Carlson caught a TD pass from Matt Hasselbeck to complete a 73 yard drive and put the Seahawks up 7-0. Then came the play of the game. With Seattle driving late before halftime the Rams forced a 4th and 5 and Seattle went for a field goal. With 1:05 left in the half C.J. Ah You broke in and blocked the kick, which was recovered and returned for a touchdown by Quincy Butler. The Rams had tied the score! We were going to be in a 30 minute battle to win a game. But wait, they seem to be reviewing the play which came inside the last two minutes of the half. What could they be reviewing? Turns out the Rams had 12 men on the field and the TD would not count. To make matters worse it was 4th and 5, and the 5 yard penalty gave the Seahawks a first down. Well you know what happened after that, Matt Hasselbeck completed the 72 yard drive with a 12 yard TD pass to Nate Burleson. Within 53 seconds we went from being tied 7-7, to being down 14-0 at the half.

The Rams seemed discourage starting the second half as they were manhandled in the 3rd quarter. Seattle tacked on 2 more touchdowns and almost 200 yards of offense in the 3rd quarter alone to put the game out of reach at 28-0. The Rams only managed 41 yards and 3 more Donnie Jones punts in the quarter. The rams had 93 yards of total offense through 3 quarters, and almost as many penalty yards. The Rams wasted timeouts, had false start penalties, and two 15 yard personal foul calls on our friend Richie Incognito. Steven Jackson had 3 carried for 8 yards in the 3rd and was basically a non-factor on the day.

The numbers do not lie the Rams are just a bad football team. The Rams have lost 11 straight regular season games. You have to go back to October 19th 2008 for the Rams last victory, a 34-14 win over the Dallas Cowboys. The Rams have lost 11 straight division games. The Rams have lost 9 straight games to the Seattle Seahawks. The Rams have only 5 wins in their last 33 games. The Rams have cut a lot of dead weight off the roster but they still need to add some stars and talent.

There were not many bright spots for the Rams. They played hard to the end and Donnie Jones was great other than that the same issues were still there. The new offensive line only allowed 3 sacks, but they had their normal false starts and the run blocking was nothing to write home about. The offense was plain vanilla and was unable to get anything started or provide the defense with many breaks. The defense started off fast but faded. They once again allowed a lot of rushing yards (167) and one big run. The secondary played well but at times players were wide open. Hasselbeck was able to throw for 179 yards, 3 TDs, and a QB rating of 96.9.

The Rams will now travel to Washington to take on the 0-1 Redskins who lost 23-17 to the New York Giants today. Hang in there coach Spagnuolo, we believe in you but it will take some time. For now wipe off your shoulder and put those boys to work.
